Academic Pathway Selection

Certification
George Mason University shares in the tradition of an honor system that has existed in Virginia since 1842. The Honor Code is an integral part of university life. To promote a stronger sense of mutual responsibility, respect, trust, and fairness among all members of the George Mason University community and with the desire for greater academic and personal achievement, we, the student members of the University Community have set forth this: Student members of the George Mason University community pledge not to cheat, plagiarize, steal, and/or lie in matters related to academic work. A full copy of The Mason Honor Code can be found at https://oai.gmu.edu/full-honor-code-document/

FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that prevents institutions from releasing certain information from a student’s record without his/her consent. Student records may include admission, registration, academic, financial aid and student account information.

As a condition of admission to the ADVANCE program, I understand I will be considered both a George Mason University, and Home Institution (as referenced above) student, with all the access and privileges of each institution.

Pursuant to The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. § 1232g; 34 CFR Part 99),
  • I authorize my educational records to be shared in the following ways: I authorize George Mason University and Home Institution to jointly and separately maintain my educational records, in either or both institutions’ Student Information System.

  • I authorize George Mason University and Home Institution access to educational records maintained at both institutions, including, but not limited to, admissions, registration, grades, financial aid, and student conduct.

  • I authorize this release to continue in effect until my graduation from George Mason University, or my withdrawal from the ADVANCE program.
I understand: (1) I have the right not to consent to the release of my student records and information, (2) the information may be released orally or in written form, and (3) that I may revoke this consent at any time. Revocation of this release will result in my withdrawal from the ADVANCE program.

ADVANCE Terms and Conditions
In joining the ADVANCE program, I understand that I am obligated to meet the following program requirements and academic milestones in order to transition, and I will be reviewed by Mason’s Office of Admissions for transfer admission upon completion of my chosen Academic Pathway in the final semester at my home institution:
  1. Earn grades of A, B, or C in all courses. Select pathways require grades of B or higher in additional courses. Please see the program-specific requirements listed on your program at time of pathway selection.

  2. ADVANCE admits students at a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. However, ADVANCE students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of graduation from their home institution in order to matriculate to Mason. Select pathways may have a higher GPA requirement at time of matriculation.

  3. Graduate from home institution with the designated associate degree on their selected ADVANCE pathway. Students who wish to enroll at Mason for the fall semester must apply for graduation from their respective community college by the published spring or summer graduation application deadline for that institution. Students who wish to enroll at Mason for the spring semester must apply for graduation from their home institution by the published fall graduation application deadline for that institution.

  4. Complete coursework at home institution and transition to Mason the following semester unless the student has an approved ADVANCE matriculation deferral on file with ADVANCE Admissions.

  5. ADVANCE students are required to provide the Mason Office of Admissions two official community college transcripts. The first transcript is required for matriculation. The final transcript must reflect degree conferral.

  6. Maintain communication with ADVANCE, using my VCCS and Mason email accounts, and meet with my ADVANCE Academic Coach each semester.
I have reviewed the eligibility requirements for ADVANCE admission and enrollment.
I certify under penalty of disciplinary action that all information provided is complete and accurate.
